Brad Griffiths obtained his undergraduate medical degree from Stellenbosch University in 2005, graduating as the top student in internal medicine. After completing internship in KZN and community service in the rural Eastern Cape, he spent 2 years working in emergency medicine, intensive care and anaesthesia in Sydney, Australia.
He went on to specialise in internal medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital, obtaining his MMed degree from UCT, followed by subspecialist cardiology training at Tygerberg Hospital, where he obtained his MPhil degree, and stayed on as a consultant in the Division of Cardiology after completing his training in 2017.
He obtained an MPhil from Stellenbosch University for research into how pre-eclampsia affects the heart.
Dr Griffiths regularly presents at local and international cardiology congresses and has published in local and international journals. He has received multiple awards for academic presentations, and in 2017 was awarded the RC Fraser Fellowship to spend a month at the Guys and St Thomas’ interventional cardiology unit in London involved in the TAVI programme.
He is still actively involved in academic teaching and training of medical students and cardiology trainees at Tygerberg Hospital and Stellenbosch University, as well as contributing to the established cardiology outreach service.

If this is your first appointment with Dr Griffiths please bring your ID document and medical aid card. If you take chronic medication please bring a detailed list. If you have been referred by another doctor, or have seen another cardiologist in the past, please request ahead of time that referral letters and previous medical reports get forwarded to the practice. This will help to ensure you get the most out of the consultation.
You will first have a consultation with Dr Griffiths. Depending on the nature of your medical condition you may need have tests performed, such as an ECG, Stress ECG or Echocardiogram. If so these will be performed immediately and Dr Griffiths will discuss the results with you. Most new patients will require an ECG and echocardiogram.
If you have had blood tests done within the previous year please ask the laboratory or your GP to forward the results to the practice. Depending on the nature of your medical condition you may want to have blood tests done prior to seeing Dr Griffiths, for example if you want to discuss management of blood cholesterol levels, then it is best to have your cholesterol checked before your appointment and have the results forwarded to the practice ahead of time.
Every patient will have a detailed consultation feedback report completed which will routinely be sent to the referring doctor. If you would like a copy of this report, or if you need to obtain a copy please contact the practice or notify us ahead of time.
